Marlborough Estate Gates – Rugeley in Staffordshire

Back in June 2020 we were contacted by a customer looking to replace some existing double gates that had seen better days.

The initial enquiry came in via email and stated that the property owner wanted to replace some weather-beaten wooden gates at their home as soon as possible. They stated that they would like to change to wrought iron style gates with a pre painted finish (to reduce maintenance requirements) but would like to try and keep cost to a minimum. For this reason, they would be making use of the existing timber posts that are already in situ.

Following on from this initial enquiry the customer provided us with a couple of photographs of the existing gates and posts and from this we were able to ascertain that one of the gates would need to have the hinges positioned in a non-standard position so that it would line up with a short post fixed to the house wall. As you can see from the photographs below, the reason for this was because of a gas pipe that was running horizontally around the exterior wall.

Once this problem had been overcome and with the customers budget a deciding factor, we were able to make a couple of suggestions in terms of the gate design. Based on our suggestions the customer selected the Marlborough Wrought Iron Style Estate Gates.

The reason for this was down to the simple design elements but more so because they feature a box section framework which helps to make the gates strong without adding lots of weight (making them ideal for mounting to the existing wooden posts). Furthermore, as this design is fitted with a sliding latch the customer would be able to padlock them with ease as and when additional security would be required.

Having finalised the sizes with the property owner and been informed they would like the low maintenance zinc plated and black powder coated paint finish an order was placed on the understanding that due to extended lead times brought about because of COVID-19 the manufacturing time would be around 8-10 weeks. Although not ideal this was something the customer was happy to accommodate.

After this allotted timeframe had passed and following on from the delivery the customer emailed us with a photograph of the replacement gates once they had been installed and we think you will agree the transformation has been immense.
